The two men arrested for raping a 21-year-old Dalit woman in Rohtak, who were not named by the victim in her complaint, have refuted the police’s allegations.
On Monday, police had arrested 30-year-old Parmod Kumar, a health worker at CMO office in Rohtak while his friend Sandeep Hooda was arrested a day earlier. Police claim that Pramod revealed that he was introduced to the woman by Sandeep on July 13, the day the alleged rape took place.
Sources said that after a brief conversation at a city park, Pramod took the girl to a hotel near the bus stand in his car on the date of the alleged incident. They were joined by Sandeep at the hotel after some time. Later, they dropped her at Sukhpura Chowk.
The police procured the hotel’s CCTV footage in which the trio can been seen, sources said. Sandeep told police he knew the woman and she had called him to meet her on that day.
The victim and her family, however, maintained that she was abducted, drugged and then raped by five men, two of whom had earlier raped in 2013.
The first assault took place in Bhiwani; the woman accused five men of gang-raping her the. An FIR was filed, but two of the accused were given bail. The woman and her family then moved to Rohtak.
Then on July 13, the woman said these two men, along with three others, cornered her and raped her again.
Three of the accused have been arrested so far, while the remaining two were said to be on the run.
Pramod and Sandeep along with the three other accused arrested earlier have been sent to police custody till July 27. Police are hoping that custodial interrogation will help crack the case.
