Two new hostels will be construted for northeast students of Jawaharlal Nehru University and Delhi University, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said.

This was conveyed by Singh, Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, when a group of Northeast students from Delhi University called on him on Sunday.

Singh told that a piece of land in JNU is ready to be used for constructing the hostel. Whereas in Delhi University, the Ministry had written to the Vice-Chancellor to identify land.

The students, during the informal interaction, discussed a wide range of issues.

Responding to a suggestion by students, Singh said he saw merit in the demand that in the guest houses in Delhi for eight states of the Northeast, a certain priority can be earmarked for accommodating the needy patients from these states or the poor students who come to Delhi to appear in different examinations.

He said this issue will be taken up with the Delhi based Resident Commissioners (RCs) of North Eastern states.
