Undertrial throws chilli powder in cops’ eyes to flee, nabbed
An undertrial tried to flee from the police custody on Tuesday afternoon after throwing chilli powder in the eyes of the cops. The cops were ferrying him to Ludhiana central jail after producing him before a court.
Ludhiana: An undertrial tried to flee from the police custody on Tuesday afternoon after throwing chilli powder in the eyes of the cops. The cops were ferrying him to Ludhiana central jail after producing him before a court.
The cops, however, nabbed the accused after chasing him. The Basti Jodhewal police have lodged an FIR against the accused in this context. The accused has been identified as Surjit Lal of Chuheki village of Jalandhar. He was lodged in a jail for raping and drug peddling.
In his complaint, ASI Budh Singh said he along with staff was ferrying undertrials back to jail after producing them before the court on Monday. They were ferrying undertrials in a bus.
As they reached near the Jalandhar bypass the bus stuck in a traffic jam. Meanwhile, the accused threw chilli powder in the eyes of head constables Ravinder Kumar and Baljit Singh and jumped off from the bus.
The cops chased and nabbed him at a hand’s distance. In the act t-shirt of the accused was torn.
The cops said the accused has got the chilli powder from some acquaintance in the court complex.
The police have been investigating to find who has provided chilli powder to the accused.
