Vacate or face action, civic body tells owners of illegal structures in Thane
The TMC, which has undertaken the widening of Ghodbunder Service Road and Pokharan Road No. 1 and 2 this year, has cautioned the owners of demolishing their illegal establishments without warning if they fail to vacate the space.
With four weeks in hand to complete the road widening project, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has asked owners of illegal garages, bars and resale car showrooms that have encroached upon Ghodbunder Road, Ghodbunder Service Road and Pokharan Road No. 1 and 2 to vacate the space before November 30.
The TMC, which has undertaken the widening of Ghodbunder Service Road and Pokharan Road No. 1 and 2 this year, has cautioned the owners of demolishing their illegal establishments without warning if they fail to vacate the space.
The roads to be widened are encroached upon by illegal garages, bars and resale car showrooms. The garages and showrooms use the widened roads to park their vehicles, which obstructs vehicle movement.
Civic chief Sanjeev Jaiswal said, “There are 61 such establishments from Kapurbawdi to Gaimukh of which 49 are illegal and the remaining 12 are illegally using the service road. From November 30, we will start demolishing all these establishments along the Ghodbunder Service Road.”
He said that the owners of these entities should either vacate the space or provide documents to prove they are legal.
The TMC is also contemplating rehabilitating the owners of garages and resale showrooms.
Jaiswal said, “We do not want to inconvenience the people who visit these establishments or these traders. We have proposed to rehabilitate them on some of the nine amenity plots identified for the purpose. They will, however, have to use it only for commercial purposes.”
The bars and restaurants, however, will not be rehabilitated.
