It is not possible to define life in exact terms, and it has been a matter of research and discussion since time immemorial. However, the general meaning derived is that it is like a journey.

We go places by various means. We find people going around with their luggage. Some carry heavy luggage and this affects their journey. All the time, they are conscious that they have to take care of their luggage.

It is registered on their minds that the luggage is naturally important and so is its safety. Our existence on this planet is undefined and we do not know when we have to quit and what happens to us thereafter. Despite this, the tendency to accumulate is visible. In Urdu, there is couplet which says ‘Saman sow baras ka pal ki khabar nahin’.

That is, we try to plan and gather wealth as if we are going to live for hundred years; but in actual practice we do not know for sure what our fate is or what will happen the very next moment.

While wealth is of some material use, the fact remains that happiness can’t be purchased by wealth. It is a state of mind that has to be cultivated assiduously and right thinking. There is joy in sharing. Only those who share know how much pleasure it gives when we share our meals or other things with our fellow brothers/friends.

It is prudent to travel light and sharing with the needy makes life meaningful. It makes the journey comfortable too. Therefore, let us make our travel on this planet comfortable and carry the minimum possible luggage. I conclude with the famous lines of the great poet, Robert Frost, (Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening ):The woods are lovely, dark, and deep/But I have promises to keep/And miles to go before I sleep/ And miles to go before I sleep.
