The bliss of balancing

Recently, the town where I live lost one of its most successful businessmen at a young age. He was always so worked up that he won't spare time even to visit a doctor despite visible symptoms of ailment.

The day he experienced a sudden fall in his BP, death did not give him enough time to be taken to a hospital. He had huge amount of money in the bank next to his shop.

But, today, in the absence of his will, infighting among his successors has made only the bank richer. Reason, he pursued his business goals madly and hardly gave any time to his family.

The point that I want to stress is that the present generation has become so much focused on their materialistic goals, especially in poor countries like ours, that it is proving to be counter-productive for them. Most of the times, they are achieving their goals but it is at the cost of their health, relationships and mental peace.

Agreed, a few extra hours at the place of work or a new assignment at a far-away place gives you some extra backs for your future security, according to your own created perception.

But if it is keeping you away from your children who perhaps need your attention or your life partner who can break any time by shouldering the family responsibilities single handedly, then you need to rethink your career plans.

We don't need to have just career and academic goals; we should set goals to give us a balanced and successful life. And, when I use the word 'balanced' before 'successful', it is done intentionally to convey its deep meaning and importance for a happy life.

The Gita says yoga is all about balance. So much is the importance of balancing in life that even by chasing all the blessings of the Almighty all the time, we will not get the much cherished salvation - the bliss of happiness.
