With IM and al Qaeda joining hands India should be extra alert
With reference to the editorial Tighrope walking (Our Take, September 21), the revelations by Yasin Bhatkal are terrifying. It shows how dangerous an organisation the Indian Mujahideen (IM) is and this also throws light on its anti-India activities. The revelation that the Bhatkal brothers approached al Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri to conduct attacks in India should worry the Indian authorities. It also points to the support the ISI lends towards the IM. All political parties should unite and see that our agencies put an end to this menace of terror.

The public demand for Modi as the PM candidate cannot be ignored
With reference to the report, Nitish dismisses Modi blitz as hype (September 21), Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s criticism of Gujarat chief minister and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi seems to be a case of sour grapes. Kumar’s problem is that he himself is nursing aspirations for the top post. There’s no denying that Kumar along with Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Raman Singh are among the select few good and successful chief ministers in the country today but it would not be prudent to ignore that more and more public voices are supporting Modi.

Sidelining Advani will not send the right signals to the party cadre
With reference to Rajdeep Sardesai’s article Too soon to say goodbye (Beyond the bite, September 20), the BJP’s patriarch LK Advani is undoubtedly one of the most respected and seasoned politicians we have today. It is unfortunate that Advani, who played a vital role in steering the party through some difficult times, is in a sulk now. If the Goa meet, where Narendra Modi was elevated to election campaign chief, deeply hurt Advani, declaring Modi as BJP’s PM candidate has added insult to injury. However, the BJP will do well not to sideline its senior leader because that would not send the right message to the people.
