Nitish shouldn’t be in the NDA if he doesn’t like the BJP’s ideology

This refers to Rajdeep Sardesai’s article Clash of the titans (Beyond The Bite, June 29). No one questions Narendra Modi’s style of functioning, but everyone seems to have an opinion on everything that Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar says or does. Kumar is doing a good job of running Bihar. But by rejecting an invitation to an NDA meeting, taking a jab at Modi by stating that India needs a secular PM and criticising the BJP’s policy of Hindutva, Kumar is doing a big disservice to his ally in the state. If he doesn’t approve of the BJP’s core ideology of Hindutva, he should severe all ties with the party.

Kumar’s contempt for Modi is aimed at appeasing Muslims in Bihar and other parts of India. He is cleverly trying to have an upper hand over Modi, so that the BJP is left with no choice but to name Kumar as its prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections. Unfortunately, Modi can’t refute Kumar’s allegations since he hasn’t made any efforts to prove his secular credentials. The Bihar chief minister has made the right move at the right time.

Three cheers for La Roja
The Spanish football team is on a roll after winning two successive Euros and the 2010 World Cup (It’s three, Amigosh! July 3). It will be interesting to see whether or not Spain manages to maintain its winning streak for long. However, by beating Italy 4-0 in the Euro Cup finals, Spain has proved that it is the best team in the world today.
