Euro and World Cup winner. Top goalscorer in both tournaments. This season he's playing for the best club team in the world. Things look really good for Barcelona's David Villa (28), but he insists in this exclusive interview that he hasn't won enough in his career.

What did you think when Barcelona approached you before the World Cup?

I was actually surprised that the clubs reached an agreement so quickly. I would have thought that Valencia wanted to wait for after the World Cup because maybe they could have got a better price. But I didn't complain. Barcelona are one of those clubs you just can't say no to. Don't get me wrong, I really had a good time in Valencia and I owe a lot to them. I also knew that Valencia needed the money, so I was only interested in helping them in that way as well. It was the perfect move because I could travel to the World Cup without having to speculate about my future.

Do you agree that you and (Lionel) Messi form the deadliest duo in the world?

I don't think Messi needs me to deserve that title. He is without any doubt the best player in the world at the moment and training and playing with him only makes me even more certain about that. But it's not just about Messi or me. Barcelona have world class players in every single position, so if you talk about a deadly strike force you can also talk about a defence that keeps everything locked. It's inspiring playing with so many great players and I think that the Spanish national team and Barcelona are very similar in many ways.

What is your impression of coach Josep Guardiola?

He is very inspiring. He is a young coach and does things a bit differently and is more modern than other coaches I have played under. It's very clear that he's trying to develop the Barcelona playing style and constantly building new things in the Barca way. You sense that he is brought up playing in the system with Johan Cruyff as an inspiration. He is very calm even when we don't play well and that just makes you want to fight even more for him.

How do you see Spain's World Cup performance now that it is becoming a distant memory?

I still think it's unbelievable. Before the tournament, everybody talked about us as the big favourites and we knew we could go all the way. But it's not very often that the favourites actually win the title. It was my biggest dream being realized when we won the final against Holland.

How do you think Spain shed the tag of being underachievers in major tournaments?

I think the Euro 2008 win changed a lot. Even beating Italy in the knockout stage at a crucial time in Austria changed a lot. We started to believe that we were the best. . After winning the Euro, it feels like we are a different side. When we come on the field we know that the opponents are scared of us and that gives us an advantage. We are really hard to play against because we always have most ball possession and we will always create chances.
