Compassion, not promises, will bring about sadbhavana in Gujarat

This refers to Rajdeep Sardesai's article Try a little kindness (Beyond The Bite, February 24). Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi announced compensation packages for the families of the victims of the Gujarat riots. He has also assured the people of his state that such a tragedy won't recur and that the perpetrators will be brought to book. But till date he hasn't made any sincere attempts at bridging the gap among various communities. He hasn't shown any compassion and kindness that rises above religious divides. That's why even after 10 years of the riots, sadbhavana is absent in Gujarat.

Don't politicise national security

With reference to the editorial We shouldn't get terrified (Our Take, February 29), it's a pity that an ambitious project related to national security has fallen victim to petty politics. Home minister P Chidambaram should have taken all chief ministers into confidence while formulating the guidelines for the National Counter Terror-ism Centre (NCTC). Every delay in the implementation of the project could prove detrimental to India's safety. Now that the prime minister has asked Chidambaram to consult all the states, it seems that the NCTC won't see the light of day anytime soon.

It's uncomfortable but true
This refers to the editorial Pestilential Patagonians (The Pundit, February 29). Arvind Kejriwal was echoing the views of millions of Indians when he recently said that some of our parliamentarians are thieves, rapists and goons. His comment may be politically incorrect but it is factually correct, as some of our MLAs are indeed facing various criminal charges.
