Low goals will lead to poor outcomes in sporting events
With reference to the editorial Gearing up for London (Our Take, July 9), it seems there is something missing with our preparations for the coming Oly-mpic Games. It is amazing how we are usually content to win just two or three medals though hundreds of sportspersons represent the country at the Games. If we restrict our ambition, we do not deserve to be a sporting nation. Of course, the right infrastructure is vital if we want to nurture champions.

Relief to one and all
K Srinath Reddy in A cure for all ills (July 9) is right in stating that physicians must prescribe quality-assured generic drugs. Drug manufacturing companies have taken control of the drug market, making it impossible for smaller companies to survive. They spend crores of rupees on doctors and chemists, and all these expenses are piled on to the cost of the medicine. Unless the medical community cooperates, cheap and effective medicines will remain a distant dream.

Low goals will lead to poor outcomes in sporting events
The Asia edition of Time magazine has created a furore by calling Prime Minister Manmohan Singh an underachiever (Time magazine calls PM an 'underachiever', Cong fumes  (July 9). Any achievement of the UPA gets negated because of the scams it got embroiled in. Governance involves both courage and tactic and the electorate should vote prudently if they want to elect the right people to govern the country.

Correction
The caption to the photograph with the article Don't pass the buck (July 10) incorrectly mentions that Sitamarhi is located in Uttar Pradesh. It is located in Bihar. The error is regretted.
