Arrogance will get our netas nowhere with the people
After Union law minister Salman Khurshid's intemperate outburst against anti-corruption crusader Arvind Kejriwal for questioning the financial record of one of the trusts he and his wife runs, it is now the turn of Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Virbhadra Singh to lose his cool in the face of sustained questioning by the media (Virbhadra apologises to media, October 25). But unlike Khurshid who remains defiant to date, at least Singh has had the grace to apologise for his outburst against the media. Such arrogance on the part of our politicians will not go down well with the electorate. The UPA's top management must ask its senior leaders to behave themselves in public, especially ahead of two important assembly elections.

A passing phase, hopefully
With reference to Gopalkrishna Gandhi's article Perfect reverberations (Incidentally, October 20), the author has made some valid points but in today's world there is hardly much space for faith, honesty and spiritualism. But I hope this is a temporary phase and things will change for the better soon.

Punishment is the best deterrent
With reference to Samar Halarnkar's article India's great sickness (Maha Bharat, October 25), it is sad to learn that even women politicians don't understand the plight of rape victims. We must stop blaming the victims of such acts and instead focus on the culprits. There should be fast-track courts to try such cases and the culprits must be punished ruthlessly.
