Delhi has the resources to clean the Yamuna but it lacks the will
This refers to the report HC raps govt on Yamuna clean-up (November 28). The Delhi High Court has done a great job by directing the Delhi government to clean the Yamuna. So far, almost Rs. 1,200 crore has been spent on various ‘clean Yamuna’ projects, which haven’t been executed properly. The state government is once again misusing the taxpayers’ money in the name of learning lessons in cleaning rivers from Britain. But the court must not allow the authorities concerned to travel to London for the same. The truth is that Delhi has all the resources to clean the river but it lacks the will to do so.

Only for political mileage
I agree with the editorial It’s time to move forward (Our Take, November 28) that the government and the opposition parties cannot continue quibbling over foreign direct investment (FDI) in the retail sector. There are many other bills that must be discussed in Parliament. But both Houses are getting adjourned constantly over this issue. All parties have politicised the issue of FDI in order to gain some political mileage in 2014. If they were indeed serious about the aam aadmi’s welfare, our elected representatives would have let Parliament function smoothly.

Sachin has to retire some day
Since Sachin Tendulkar is not in form, it is natural that his critics would raise the question of his retirement (I’m not getting runs, now it’s your call: Sachin to selectors, November 28). There’s no reason for fans to be up in arms whenever someone talks about his retirement. There are no words to describe his contribution to cricket. But that doesn’t mean that he can never retire. In fact, the Master Blaster should retire gracefully and continue to improve the sport in his capacity as an MP.
