The Bollywood music scene is really hot these days! What do you think?

Hot? Ho..? what?

Haven’t you seen the chartbusters, Sheila ki jawani and Munni badnam hui?

You call those numbers hot? What’s wrong with you? Your standards are falling, my dear. I watched much more — and less — at Saifai Mahotsav.

Oh, at that Mahotsav? But that couldn’t have been so sizzling. The word Mahotsav sounds sedate. Ah, you were impressed with the authenticity of the traditional costumes worn by the dancers.

What tradition would that be? I didn’t see much by way of costume on those belly dancers at Saifai. Did you say belly da..?

Yes b-e-l-l-y dancers from Ukraine. The real McCoy. What a show it was!

At the Samajwadi Party show? I am surprised. I thought Mulayam was a bit...

What’s so wrong with that? In socialism, it’s about public ownership of everything and that includes entertainment too. So Mulayam Singh, the leader, enjoyed himself, his partymen did so too. There is no hierarchy in taste.

But earlier they used to go in for classical forms of entertainment. Why this sudden change of heart?

Nothing much, with Amar Singh out of the party, Mulayam must have thought that he must change the Bollywood culture a bit. So, he got the belly dancers to change the mood of the people ahead of the New Year

Do say: Shake a leg.

Don’t say: It’s too much to stomach.
