Roger Binny, coach of the Asian team for the second Afro-Asia Cup, said the purpose of the tournament was to generate funds for development of cricket in both continents.

Binny, also the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Development Officer, was not really concerned about some of the big names pulling out.

“We still have got some big players in both sides,” the former India all-rounder told HT from Bangalore on Thursday. “One cannot really blame the players as they have prior commitments. We had foreseen this problem.”

About Nimbus, who had initially secured the rights for telecasting the tournament and withdrew on Wednesday, Binny said: “Nimbus was always having problems with covering cricket.”

“They had problems during the last series between India and Bangladesh in Dhaka,” Binny added.
