After the loss comes the injury.

Pakistan’s misery was made complete on Monday when Shoaib Malik twisted his ankle and their two best performers in the game, Misbah-ul-Haq and Shoaib Akhtar, were hit by a viral.

Malik and Misbah --- who had a throat infection --- were taken to Apollo Hospital in the afternoon; the captain had an MRI scan on his ankle while Misbah was examined by experts. According to hospital sources, both were advised a rest of a couple of days, which was deemed enough for hem to return to complete fitness.

It is learnt that late in the evening, Akhtar complained of having fever and being “unwell”, and a doctor was summoned to the hotel, but it’s learnt that it’s not serious.

The second Test at Kolkata starts on November 30, so the three seem to have enough time to recover.

On the eve of the Test, Pakistan were forced to drop the injured Umar Gul, out with a back strain. Gul trained after the end of the match, as he had done on Sunday as well, and Malik and coach Geoff Lawson said he was “improving”.
