All set for a starry, starry fight
After tasting their first win in the Indian Premier League, Kings XI Punjab will be looking to retain the momentum against defending champions Rajasthan Royals at the Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday, reports Rakesh Thapliyal.cricket Updated: Apr 26, 2009 19:04 IST
A wet Saturday morning spoilt Rajasthan Royals’ plans of practice. When it comes to Sunday’s match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Kings XI Punjab though, rain may not be the only distraction. The presence of Bollywood stars, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty, could distract from cricket. The two will be there, cheering their teams in what will be yet another Bollywood match-up. Add to this the fact that both teams come into the game on the back of much-needed victories. We’ve already seen each of the two heroines lock horns with SRK but this promises to be different.
The two have been studies in contrasts. While the Rajasthan Royals’ co-owner, Shilpa has preferred to watch her team from the Royals’ box, leaving the task of distributing the team’s flags to volunteers and subordinates, Preity has been in the thick of things. She distributes T-shirts and is always waving the team flag and obliging autograph-seekers, signing shirts, tickets and anything else fans offer.
While Preity moves about with gay abandon, mostly unaccompanied by partner and co-owner Ness Wadia, Shilpa is closeted in the box along with her loved ones. Her mother, sister Shamita, and boyfriend Raj Kundra are always by her side.
Shilpa’s Royals have three points, two from their pulsating victory against Kolkata Knight Riders and one from the abandoned tie against Mumbai Indians. Shah Rukh’s Knight Riders and Preity’s Kings XI have two points each.
Led by Shane Warne, the defending champions look buoyant after their victory against KKR. The skipper is hoping that Graeme Smith can provide a good start while Yusuf Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja chip in with cameos and power the Royals to a good total. Kings XI though have discovered a new hero in Ravi Bopara and will be waiting for captain Yuvraj Singh to explode.
A country where nothing works like cricket and cinema needn’t look any further than this for some Sunday evening entertainment.
