The injury crisis for New Zealand is deepening with every match with speedster Hamish Bennett twisting his ankle against Sri Lanka.

It began with captain Daniel Vettori injuring his knee against Pakistan a fortnight ago and Kyle Mills limping off with a quad strain in the last match. Both Vettori and Mills are yet to recover and Darryl Tuffey has been flown in as a cover to Mills.

The Kiwis faced a similar crisis during the 2009 Champions Trophy when Jesse Ryder, Jacob Oram and Tuffey suffered injuries in successive games.

Still they reached the final.
