Swapnil Asnodkar, who has been in the eye of a storm for his controversial decision to call off their Ranji Trophy match against Maharashtra, has written a letter to the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) tendering an apology and explaining his actions.
Confirming this, the secretary of the GCA, Prasad Phaterpekar, said, “We received a letter from Swapnil in which he has explained what happened and apologised for his actions,” Prasad said the GCA was investigating the matter and would call him personally if required.
On the final day of the match at Porvorim last Sunday, Goa had to chase 130 runs in 19 overs for victory, but Asnodkar, who was also the skipper and batting, called off the match after six overs when Goa were 18/1.
The decision came as a shock to everyone present at the ground including his teammates and officials of the GCA. It gave fodder to the doubters and the president of the GCA said on Wednesday that he had sought call records of Asnodkar.
