Harbhajan Singh was in high spirits after playing an important role in the Mumbai Indians’ win against the Chennai Super Kings. Skipper Sachin Tendulkar was quick to praise Harbhajan but it was the success of fellow spinners Shane Warne and Anil Kumble that thrilled Bhajji.

“Without doubt, the pitches here, especially at Newlands, where Sanath Jayasuriya and later Warne and Kumble were able to deceive batsmen, give some assistance to spinners,” Harbhajan told HT.

The offie also thought the toss could play a vital role. “When we won the T20 World Cup we kept winning tosses,” explained Harbhajan. “It gives you an edge as you can bat first and if you put more than 150 runs on the board you can put pressure on the batsmen.”

Harbhajan said the formula was for the quicks to extract early assistance and set a platform for the spinners.
