Pace bowlers breaking down in recent times seem to have sprung the national cricket administrators into action. The BCCI has asked the national selection panel to zero in on a “pool of pace bowlers for better management and monitoring”.
“This is one of the steps to ensure that bowlers are managed properly,” a BCCI insider told HT.
“As pace bowlers are more prone to injuries, we feel team's performance will not be affected much if a back-up bowler is readily available.”
The selectors, though, haven't been given a deadline to submit the list, it's learnt that they have been told to identify at least ten to 12 bowlers as early as possible.
“Once you know the bowlers who are in the fray, it will be easier for the selectors and the team management to monitor and manage resources in the long run. Moreover, knowing that they are in the scheme of things will also give confidence to the players,” he said.
