Bengal’s Ranji Trophy hot streak overcame the last-eight hurdle as Laxmi Ratan Shukla’s boys ousted Railways by 48 runs in the only quarterfinal that extended to the fifth day. Three consecutive outright victories, including a low-scoring thriller on a rank turner at Chepauk, have now sent Bengal to their first semifinal since 2006-07.

Brief scores

Bengal 317 and 267 beat Railways 314 and 222 (M Kartik 56, AN Ghosh 50, LR Shukla 3/45)
