Blue is certainly in, at least if you’re going to the World T20.

The tournament may still have another six days to officially kick-off, but merchandise for the tournament is flying off the shelves. The hot seller? Well, the blue India polo T-shirt.

A visit to the official merchandise store at Lord’s reveals why. Teeming with Indian fans of all shapes and sizes, the little corner with the Team India stuff is chockablock in contrast to the others.

“We are having a hard time trying to meet the demand for the Indian polos,” said Dylan, who is in charge of the shop. “We’ve hardly sold anything else, just the Indian T-shirts and flag.”

And it isn’t hard to see why.

Mr and Mrs Patel, who came all the way from Birmingham for India’s practice game on Monday, made a beeline to the store almost as soon as they entered the stadium.

“We will buy India T-shirts for everyone in our family. We want to make sure our children and grandchildren know where they are from and, more importantly, know how to support!”

It was the same for Sumit, Raghav and Jasjit, who found it “crazily difficult” to get a ticket to the game, and once they did, found it even harder to get an Indian flag!”

“They’ve sold out India flags even before the team has played a single game? There sure are a lot of Indians

watching cricket, aren’t they?” asked an almost bemused Raghav.

For Dylan, every day without a new stock of Indian merchandise, is almost a day without a single sale.

As for the flag with which he was kind enough to pose for the camera, was snapped up by an Indian within seconds of the photo-op!
