In a major embarrassment, the BCCI had to drop the name of Karnataka State Cricket Association’s Tallam Venkatesh, who was unveiled as the interim treasurer on Thursday when Sanjay Patel was announced as interim secretary.
The board was forced to do a volte-face due to technical reasons. “For office-bearers, you needed to have attended at least two AGMs but when they realised that wasn’t the case, the name had to be taken back,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
It reflects poorly on BCCI as it named a senior official without knowing whether he was eligibile. “Some people are arguing that since this was an interim arrangement, the rules could have been relaxed.”
A new treasurer is likely to be named in the meeting on Monday. The vacancy has coem after Ajay Shirke quit in protest over BCCI’s handling of fixing scandal.
