As the Indian team got down to business during a three-hour practice session at the R Premadasa Stadium, players started pulling MS Dhoni’s leg.
As the wicketkeeper-batsman returned to the temporary enclosure after having a hit in the nets, one of the senior players took a jibe at him. “Tune bulaya kyon nahi shaadi me?,” he asked, prompting a bout of laughter from rest of the group.
Even if the skipper throws a grand wedding party for his teammates, they aren’t going to spare him the taunts.
Virender Sehwag was at his jovial best in the nets. After being softened up by Ishant Sharma, who was bowling at his best, and crashing his bat on his toe while attempting an on-drive, the ferocious batsman started humming: “Aaj ka din hi kharaab hai.”
When complimented by coach Gary Kirsten for his stand and deliver off drive while taking throw-downs, he replied:
“See, I keep telling you that I can hit even good balls with ease.” And when Sachin Tendulkar preferred to take Kirsten’s throw-downs instead of heading to the pacer’s net, Sehwag was again at it. “Yahaan aao paaji, Ishant to chala gaya.”
Now, that must have pleased Ishant no end.
