“The first milestone we have achieved in this series is to win a game and take the lead. But now, it's important to play the same kind of cricket in the second and third Tests too,” M. S. Dhoni said after India won at the Seddon Park.

“We played consistent cricket over four days, that's what is important. Test cricket is all about winning session after session. It's not about winning one day's play or winning a few sessions.”

Dhoni was understandably proud of the way some of his key players had performed.

“It's great to play with Sachin. If he can keep contributing to wins, that will be more important for us. It is a pleasure to see him bat.

“Whenever he scores those big hundreds, you can't see anything better. After he crossed the 80-run mark, there wasn't one bad delivery that wasn't put away for a four.

“Harbhajan proved why he is among the best. He got us important wickets at the right time. Overall, it was a good team effort but Sachin and Harbhajan were the two who performed exceedingly well.”

Dhoni's Midas touch continued with this being his fifth win in six matches as captain. “It is very special, I haven't been to New Zealand before,” he said. “It will be very special because of a couple of players — Sachin and Harbhajan. But when everyone is performing his job and taking up responsibility, there is no pressure on the captain. When you don't rely on a few individuals and are doing well as a team, your job as captain becomes very easy.”

Playing up the team theme, Dhoni said, “I have got a great team, more than anything else. We enjoy each others’ success, we help each other a lot when it comes to cricket, on and off the field. We create an environment where every individual feels comfortable. We give the best facilities so that the cricketer can perform. We have a good mixture of guys who have plenty of experience and youngsters who want to perform and are very talented. That's what is helping the side. We take pride in whatever we do.”
