Left-handed batsman Rob Quiney was today included in Australia's 12-member squad for the Twenty20 international match against New Zealand on Sunday, after captain Michael Clarke and pacer Mitchell Johnson were ruled out of the encounter due to injuries.
Clarke, who also missed today's final ODI against the Kiwis, will seat out owing to a back injury and in his absence wicket-keeper batsman Brad Haddin will lead the side with Cameron White as his deputy.
Johnson, however, was forced out of the match due to a niggling ankle injury.
"It's unfortunate that Michael Clarke has been forced to miss the game due to injury. Given the side leaves for South Africa the morning after the game in Sydney, there was really no alternative but to take a conservative approach to management of this minor injury," National Selection Panel Chairman Andrew Hilditch said in a statement.
"It does present a great opportunity for Rob Quiney to join the Australian squad. Rob has performed well in Twenty20 cricket this year, with probably the highlight being his excellent innings in the KFC Big Bash final."
