Corporate Trophy: Teams pull out

The Corporate Trophy will have two teams less than what it had in its inaugural edition last year. Reason: the BCCI, unlike last year, has decided not to provide accommodation and daily allowance to the teams, leading to the withdrawal of Canara Bank and Vijaya Bank from the tournament.
"They said they were withdrawing as they could not afford the extra expenses and that the BCCI had changed the rules," said BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty. With these two teams pulling out, the BCCI has been forced to change the groupings of the tournament, scheduled to be held from September 1 to 8.
As per the revised itinerary, India Cements, All India Electricity Board and State Bank of India have been placed in Group A, Group B comprises Tata SC, Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum, Group C constitutes Air India, BSNL, Chemplast and State Bank of Mysore while Group D is made up of ONGC, Income Tax, MRF and State Bank of Patiala.
Shetty informed that no new teams have been added in place of the two bank teams and the tournament would now feature 14 teams.
The league match between India Cements and All India Electricity Board at Vishakhapatnam (September 3) and the two semi finals (September 5 and 6) and the September 8 final at Vishakhapatnam will be telecast live on Neo Sports, he added.
Air India dominated the first edition of the trophy that was held last year.
