Thanks to India’s upcoming one day international in Delhi against New Zealand on October 20, cricketer Suresh Raina will be able to celebrate his first Karva Chauth with wife Priyanka Chaudhary, today. “We couldn’t celebrate it last year because I was not here and she too, wasn’t in Delhi. This year, since the ODI is also in Delhi, I will finally be able to be with her,” Raina says.
Asked what the plan for the day is the batsman who married in April last year, says, “It will be a family affair and maybe we’ll go out for dinner with Gracia ( their daughter).”
A doting husband, Raina adds, “Marriage has been bliss so far. There are so many things that have changed in my life. Not that I have changed as a person or a cricketer, but in other ways. For example, now my time is not spent with friends but her (Priyanka). Whenever I am not playing, I am with them, and I’m constantly thinking of how to make a better life for them.”
The 29-year-old, who will be making his comeback in one day internationals after a year, also jokes how he is bothered about the comments his wife might have when she sees him in action. “Right now, she hasn’t seen me play much. But now she will, and if I get out early, she might say, ‘inti jaldi out kyu ho gaye’ or if I score good runs, she will say, ‘aaj to luck chal gaya’,” he laughs.
Life changed even more for the left-handed batsman after he became a father in May this year.
Life has changed completely for Suresh Raina after he was blessed with a daughter in May earlier this year.
“ She (Gracia) has brought so much happiness and I feel so much responsible now. Having a daughter, I must say changes your perspective and you start appreciating life much more. We are planning a big pooja around her first birthday next year. Bhajji paji might join in too!” he says insisting he is a family man.
