Delhi Daredevils finally brought cheer to the capital's cricket fans on Sunday as they halted their bleak start to IPL-4 by pulling off their first victory against the Pune Warriors.
Skipper Virender Sehwag shook off his failures that were highlighted in the first two defeats of the Daredevils, lashing 37 in a racy opening partnership with Aussie David Warner (46) to set the tone for the chase.
Former one-day player Venugopal Rao, the most successful batsman for Delhi this season, came good again as the Daredevils reached 190 for seven in 19.2 overs after Pune had piled up 187 for five.
Warriors skipper Yuvraj Singh, who was chosen the player of the World Cup, almost derailed the Delhi chase as he grabbed four wickets, but the Australian duo Aaron Finch and James Hopes helped carry the Daredevils past the post in the end.
Yuvraj was also the hero when Warriors, who had won their first two matches in style, batted. He top-scored with 66 off just 32 balls, finishing the innings with three sixes in a row.
Delhi Daredevils next face Deccan Chargers at the Ferozshah Kotla on Tuesday.
