Controversial Australian cricket umpire Darrell Hair, who officiated in his last one-day international match in Toronto on Sunday, kept the media at bay during the first Scotiabank ODI series in Toronto.
At a weekend gala dinner in Toronto when this correspondent tried to speak to him, Hair flatly refused, saying he didn't trust the media. More so the British media as they always distorted what he said, he added.
Hair claimed the British media always resorted to this practice while reporting anything about him.
When this correspondent promised to show him the story before filing it, Hair said that even then the (British) media will distort it to suit their purpose.
That is why, he added, he does not talk to the media.
Hair said he was willing to talk only if it was a live interview on television. Otherwise, he said, he would not interact with the media.
