De Silva heads new Sri Lankan cricket selection committee

Former batsman Aravinda De Silva was on Wednesday appointed as the new chairman of Sri Lankan cricket selection committee after the Sports Ministry sacked the earlier panel headed by Asantha de Mel.

Former batsman Aravinda De Silva was on Wednesday appointed as the new chairman of Sri Lankan cricket selection committee after the Sports Ministry sacked the earlier panel headed by Asantha de Mel.

Silva will take over the charge with immediate effect.

Sri Lankan Sports Minister C B Ratnayake announced the decision this afternoon soon after sacking former chief selector De Mel and other members namely Don Anurasiri, Chaminda Mendis and Vinodhan John.

The new panel includes commentator Ranjith Fernando, former Test player Amal Silva and Shabir Asgerally, the minister said.
