These are desperate times for the Delhi Ranji Trophy team, who need to defeat Bengal away from home in the match starting on Tuesday if they are to qualify for the quarterfinals.

The dire situation can be gauged from the fact that they have named left-arm spinner Vikas Mishra in the 15-player squad despite his complaining of severe discomfort that team officials believe could be kidney or gall bladder stone.

Mishra, who played in last week's defeat against Madhya Pradesh in Indore, was reluctant to divulge details about his problem, when HT contacted him. However, sources confirmed that Mishra was included in the eleven against MP despite complaining of pain to the team management.

Delhi's assistant coach MS Jaggi said Mishra was indeed suffering but the detailed medical reports were still awaited. “He did tell us about his problem but as of now he is fit to play. However, if he still complains of pain during practice we do have another spinner who could play,” said Jaggi. Against MP, Mishra did not bowl in the first innings and was called to bowl only in the 22nd over of the second innings, and even then sent down only three overs.
