England A to play in Duleep Trophy

England Lions, which actually is England A, will play in the Duleep Trophy inter-zonal cricket competition in Dec-Jan. The Lions have been invited as the sixth team in the tournament.

The England and Wales Cricket Board have accepted the invitation as it will provide useful match practice for fringe players before the New Zealand tour from February, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The Lions will play alongside West Zone, East Zone, North Zone, South Zone and Central Zone.

The Indian Cricket Board has been inviting overseas teams to play in the Duleep Trophy for a couple of years now.

Bangladesh and Sri Lankan teams have played in the championship in the last two years. England A were the first team to play in the tournament in 2003-04.

Durham seamer Graham Onions, 25, meanwhile, is all set to play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy.
