England lower-order frustrates Sri Lanka

England defy Muralitharan and Sri Lanka get initial morning breakthrough.

England began the day on a defiant note, as Muttiah Muralitharan's world record loomed large in the morning. Paul Collingwood and Ryan Sidebottom looked comfortable against some spirited Lankan bowling, as the duo frustrated Mahela Jayawardene's men. England lead by 69 runs with 3 wickets remaining.

Jayawardene bowled Muralitharan unchanged right from the first over of the day and later brought on Dilhara Fernando, who bowled well last evening. However, it was Lasith Malinga who gave Sri Lanka their first wicket of the morning, that of Ryan Sidebottom caught behind for a well-made 31.
