A dazzling all-round performance by Katherine Brunt powered England to an exciting three-run victory in the second ODI against India at the Chinnaswamy stadium here on Sunday.

Katherine slammed a quickfire 21 down the order to take England to 183 for seven first and then returned with a five-wicket haul to shoot out the hosts, just three runs short of the target. Electing to bat, the World Cup and T20 champions were faced with the ignominy of losing their second successive game when Katherine Brunt arrived at the square, the scorecard reading a miserly 155 for seven in the 48th over.

Katherine struck four boundaries while raising 28 quick runs in the company of the spunky Isa Guha (7 not out) to take the visitors to a respectable 183 for eight.

Brief scores

India: 180 for 9 (M Raj 91 not out, A Sharma 40, J Goswami 19; Brunt 5/22, Gunn 2/38) lost to England: 183 for 8 (Ebony Rainford-Brent Sultana 27, Jenny Gunn 64; Guhar Sultana 4/30)
