While Sachin Tendulkar was savouring his final few moments in a Test, his family members were overwhelmed with emotion. As the last wicket brought Tendulkar's glorious career to a close, wife Anjali and daughter Sara rushed down and were joined by son Arjun, to be with Tendulkar.

When Tendulkar spoke about how much he missed his late father, there was a slight nod from his mother Rajni, who was in tears.

"It has been an extremely emotional time for every member of the family today," his eldest brother, Nitin, told HT. "We are all at a loss for words."

Nitin revealed how the retirement will end all family superstitions.

"There were a lot of things we did not do when he was batting. But now that won't be the case. Like, I stopped having tea when he would be at the crease. Once when he was on 140-odd in Sharjah, I thought now he can definitely not get out. But as soon as I had tea, he was dismissed."
