India’s first World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev said that the betting scandal of the Indian domestic Twenty20 league shouldn’t be forgotten, even though India have won two back-to-back tournaments.

“Winning will cover up everything. But I would say you should always try to rectify your mistakes even while winning,” said Kapil during the CAB annual awards ceremony.

The betting scandal hit India hard but winning the Champions Trophy and the tri-nation series in West Indies has shifted the focus back on cricket. “If you play good cricket, a lot of bad things get hidden. But we don’t want to hide anything. We should have clean cricket as this country loves the game more than anything else,” said Kapil while adding that Dhoni is the ‘best captain at the moment’.

Kapil however didn’t seem too impressed about Duncan Fletcher’s role in turning the tide after a horrible start.
