Like 2001, this one, too, was scripted. The sight of Steve Waugh waiting impatiently for Sourav Ganguly was revisited on Sunday, this time on the dais at a city hotel. "It was set up then (2001, 2nd Test at Edens). It was set up now also," the former India captain said.
There was humour too. Images of Ganguly waving his shirt at the Lords balcony after the Natwest Trophy final in 2002 had the 38-year-old blushing and admitting that he is embarrassed every time it is flashed.
"Andrew Flintoff started it at the Wankhede six months before Lords. I also realised that I need to go to the gym more often," Ganguly said.
Waugh had a few up his sleeves as well. "Everyone said I told Parthiv Patel in my farewell Test (Sydney, 2004) that he wasn't even born when I started playing. No. I said: 'You were in your nappies when I started playing'," Waugh said.
