On the eve of Chennai Super Kings’ CL T20 match against KKR on Wednesday, organisers were busy shifting MS Dhoni’s team from one hotel to another. Rumour has it that it happened on an irate India captain’s insistence.
Originally staying at the ITC Kakatiya, CSK moved to another five-star facility after Dhoni was angered by the hotel staff’s refusal to allow outside food, rumoured to be home-cooked Hyderabadi biryani from India teammate Ambati Rayudu’s residence. Rayudu had arranged for his household to send the team biryani. According to reports, the hotel, which has strict policies about the consumption of outside food, had allowed it to be consumed in the rooms, but refused permission in the end after Dhoni wanted to hold the biryani party in the board room. None of this could be confirmed as officials remained tight-lipped.
“Yes CSK were originally booked at ITC Kakatiya but they chose to move to Taj Krishna on Tuesday, that’s all that I am aware of since this is something that we are not directly handling,” Hyderabad Cricket Association president Arshad Ayub said. L Rajender, the local liaison officer also confirmed the sudden move but said he was only in charge of the ground relations. The hotel booking and shifting was done by CLT20 event managers. A source said that the sudden shift to another hotel had involved security headaches but failed to confirm the biryani story.
Even BCCI officials including N Srinivasan changed their booking from Kakatiya to Krishna but sources said he did not arrive in the city.
Russell Radhakrishnan, CSK spokesperson, told HT that there were no problems as such and it was a personal decision to change hotels. “We needed more accommodation which Krishna could provide, it was a personal decision and we do not need to comment on the reasons behind the move,” he said.
KKR though had continued to stay at the Kakatiya. “The hotel is fine and we have no issues with it,” team official Joy Bhattacharya told HT.
Spokesperson of Krishna confirmed the sudden arrival of the esteemed guests while the Kakatiya counterpart, visibly stressed, refused to comment.
