Gush Cricket Club beat HCA by 8 wickets to enter the semifinal of the Lala Raghubir tournament on Wednesday.
Opener Akash Malhotra’s innings of 49 not out off 33 balls shattered HCA’s hopes of making it to the last four. He built his inning with Jaideep Chaudhary (41 off 36 balls) until the latter was bowled by Amardeep Sonkar. HCA won the toss and decided to bat first but kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Apart from Dhurv Chaudhry (29 off 33), no other batsman could stage any resistance. HCA could manage only 139/8 in their 20 overs.
The star with the ball for Gush was Rajneesh Gautam, who picked up four wickets for only 19 runs in his 4 overs.
Meanwhile, 'insufficient lighting' stalled play on Wednesday. Umpire K Hariharan officially asked the organisers to do better the lights. When asked about this, SP Bansal said: “We will have better lighting for the semifinal and the final.” Brief Scores: HCA 139 for 8 (Dhruv 29, Sahani 26; Gautam 4-19) vs GCC 140 for 2 (Malhotra 49, Chaudhary 41; Sonkar 1-17).
