Batting woes continued for hosts Uttar Pradesh on the second day of their Elite Group B Ranji Trophy match against Haryana. After slumping to their season's lowest 167 in the first innings, Uttar Pradesh were reduced to 68 for 3 in second innings.

Much was expected from UP batsmen after they conceded a 105-run lead, but they failed to get their act together again.

Joginder Sharma was the wrecker in chief as he claimed all three wickets. His victims included Shivakant Shukla (13), Eklavya Dwivedi (1) and Mohd Amir Khan (0).

Mohd Kaif (11) and opener Tanmay Srivastava (33) survived the remaining eight overs before bad light stopped play four overs before scheduled close. UP still need 37 runs to erase the deficit.

Earlier, overnight batsmen Nitin Saini (66) and Rahul Dewan (76) played their part and stitched a 109-run stand for the opening wicket to help Haryana score 272 in their first innings.
