The Australian opening pair of Matthew Hayden and Simon Katich were strongly holding the fort as Australia reached 100. Both the batsmen were cautious in their approach as they watched the ball closely and also punished any loose delievery. Katich also crossed his 50 during this process. Australia were 105/0.

India finally got a breakthrough as Amit Mishra rattled Katich's stumps. The left hander charged down the track, but failed to get to the pitch of the ball. Australia were 151/1.

Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting were going along well as they took Australia tooko the Australians past the 200 mark. But Virender Sehwag, broke the much threatening partnership as he caught Hayden right in front as the ball straightened after piching. Australia were 203/2.

Skipper Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey continued to take the Australian ship forward as they continued to score runs. Both the batsmen delted with the spinning ball and the reverse swing to score freely. Australia were 282/2.

Virender Sehwag again worked his magic as he removed Ricky Ponting to give India a much needed breakthrough. Ponting fell just 13 runs from his hundred. The Australian skipper left a big gap between his bat and pad and the ball rattled his stumps. Australia were 287/3.

Michael Hussey continued Australia's fightback as he reached yet another half century in the process. New man in Michael Clarke too was playing a crucial hand to anchor the Australian innings. They were 325/3.

Michael Hussey got a peach of a delivery as he lot his off stump, to give India the all important wicket. Australia were 338/4.
