On the last day of the first Galle test, India is left staring at defeat by the hosts. Muttiah Muralitharan claimed Harbhajan Singh's wicket on Thursday, his 799th one to meet the landmark of 800 Test wickets.

A day when Virender Sehwag joined Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Mohammad Azharuddin in an elite list of Indians who have scored at least 20 Test hundreds, India could not save the match.

Muttiah Muralitharan's five-wicket haul triggered a collapse of the batting lineup and allowed Kumar Sangakkara to enforce the follow on.

In the second innings, India were 201 for 7, still trailing Sri Lanka's first-innings 520 by 43 runs.
