17:10 hrs IST: Speaking after the end of the day’s play, Rahul says, “I’ll always have to live with this. I played a horrible shot and got out on 199. I haven’t seen the videos. Just been standing under the shower. It will take some time to sink in. I thought I would get a double hundred in ease. Just have to come back stronger.”

17:04 hrs IST: That is stumps on day 3 and India are trailing by just 86 runs. Rahul’s dismissal won 199 was tragic, but he has put India in a great position.

16:44 hrs IST: England opt for a review against Murali Vijay. He is given not out. Once again the impact is outside off and England have lost both their reviews.

16:41 hrs IST: WICKET! Tragedy! Calamity! Catastrophe! KL Rahul out for 199. He cannot believe it. He is on his knees. Virat Kohli is stunned! Chennai is silent but they rise up to applaud what has been a splendid effort.

12:23 hrs IST: Pujara is looking in great touch. Dawson errs in his length and bowls it a bit too short, Pujara rocks back and cuts it to deep point for a boundary. India 180/1.

12:18 hrs IST: Rahul enters the 90s. Decent first over from Stokes. Her bowled with pace and was ready to hit the pitch hard. Over in Brisbane, there has been another rain interruption. Groan!

12:14 hrs IST: Ben Stokes starts off proceedings after lunch and the plan seems to be to bowl short at Rahul and Pujara. Both batsmen have to be careful as Stokes can bowl the heavy ball.

12:08 hrs IST: Welcome back for the second session. Over in Brisbane, Pakistan have lost the vital wicket of Azhar Ali after the resumption. Follow live updates here.

11:37 hrs IST: Over in Brisbane, the situation remains the same. Rain has forced the players to remain indoors. In fact, play will resume in about 15-20 minutes.

11:32 hrs IST: That is lunch on day 3 and India will be happy with the position. They are 173/1, trailing England by 304 runs. Rahul is 11 away from his fourth century but England will be happy with the wicket of Parthiv Patel for 71.

11:26 hrs IST: Pujara gets going with a boundary. He dances down the track and converts this flighted delivery from Rashid into a full toss to thump it to deep mid wicket. He finishes off the over in style by getting another boundary

11:23 hrs IST: Just a few minutes to go for lunch. Dawson has come over the wicket and already, the Indian batsmen are content on padding him away as he pitches on leg stump.

11:14 hrs IST: Rahul once again uses the reverse sweep against Moeen Ali and comes out on top again. He rolls his wrists over the ball and hits it to the third man fence. India 158/1

11:11 hrs IST: Pujara has come out to bat. Still no sign of Vijay. Maybe, after Virat Kohli?

11:08 hrs IST: WICKET! Loose shot from Parthiv and he departs after registering his highest Test score. Moeen floats this delivery up and it spins away, Parthiv dances down the track and ends up slicing the drive, the ball skews off the leading edge to Jos Buttler at cover point. 11:04 hrs IST: India have gone past 150 and England are not finding any answers to this partnership. The pitch is also not offering any assistance.

11:02 hrs IST: Rashid is bowling more quicker and straighter. He is troubling Rahul a bit but the batsman is calmly playing him out.

10:58 hrs IST: England are rotating the bowlers around. Cook has a slightly more attacking field for Moeen. Two slips and an unconventional short cover in position as Parthiv takes strike.

10:51 hrs IST: Rahul continues to grow in confidence. He unfurls the reverse sweep and finds the third man fence. He is racing towards a century. India 141/0.

10:38 hrs IST: While fans are basking in sunshine and humidity in Chennai, this is the situation at the Gabba in Brisbane. Those clouds look so nasty. The second session has also been delayed as the rain lashes down.

09:40 hrs IST: WHAM! The first big hit of the day. Dawson tosses this up and Rahul dances down the track to smash it over the ropes straight down the ground. Got to the pitch brilliantly.

09:37 hrs IST: Not such a good start from Stuart Broad. He starts off with a full ball down the leg side, tries to hustle the batsman with some short-pitched bowling and Parthiv gets going with a punch down the ground for a boundary. India have moved to 66/0.

09:34 hrs IST: Just an update on Murali Vijay. He can bat whenever a wicket falls. He was not on the field yesterday for some time due to an injured shoulder. Since it is an external injury, he can bat whenever he wants.

09:20 hrs IST: A warm welcome to the third day of the fifth and final Test between India and England from Chennai. Parthiv Patel and KL Rahul have gotten off to a great start and they will be aiming to capitalise on a pitch that has nothing for the bowlers.

Day 2 honours at the MA Chidambaram Stadium were shared on Saturday. Half-centuries by debutant Liam Dawson and number nine Adil Rashid underlined the tourists’ batting depth.

India claimed three wickets on the second morning but the 108-run partnership between Dawson and Rashid in a productive second session for the touring side frustrated the hosts.

KL Rahul was unbeaten on 30 at stumps and the right-hander will be eager to make amends with the bat having dropped centurion Moeen Ali before he had scored on Friday. Parthiv Patel was on 29 at the other end.
