Moeen Ali is a run shy of becoming England’s second centurion in the Rajkot Test. England batted for 93 overs on Wednesday and ended on an impressive 311 for four.
Clearly at discomfort against spinners, Ben Stokes laboured to an unbeaten 19 off 41 balls while Moeen Ali showed no hurry to score his fourth Test century.
Moeen showed great application and temperament. He has batted for 192 balls so far, picking each of his nine boundaries with precision. His 179-run stand with Joe Root (124) was the cornerstone of England’s batting on day 1.
India’s bowling will be tested again. England applied themselves well on Wednesday and Stokes should be more comfortable facing the new ball. But all eyes will be on Moeen Ali’s century.
