New Zealand were 28 for no loss at stumps on the second day of the third and final Test, trailing India by 529 runs in the first innings in Indore on Sunday.
India rode on the 365-run partnership between Virat Kohli (211) and Ajinkya Rahane (188) to declare their innings on 557/5 against a hapless New Zealand bowling attack.
India, who clinched the three-match series in Kolkata with their second win, are looking to complete a whitewash.
