India vs Pakistan Asia Cup first innings: Pak bundled out for 83
Indian T20 captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl first in his side’s second match of the Asia Cup T20 against Pakistan in Dhaka on Saturday.
Highlights
Over 18: Pandya with two quick strikes and it’s all over for Pakistan. India need to chase 84 to win.
(Follow second innings here)
17.3 Pandya to Mohammad Amir, OUT
It’s all over, Pandya has taken two in three balls to end the innings and he leaps and clicks his heels again after uprooting Amir’s middle stump. Amir stayed in his crease and left a gap between bat and pad as he tried to push the ball on the off side. I think that might have taken the inside edge before going on to hit the stumps
17.2 Hardik Pandya to Mohammad Sami
OUT! PANDYA HAS ANOTHER! Short ball on off, this one climbs on Sami who cannot resist the pull stroke but gets a top edge on it. The ball balloons to deep mid-wicket where Raina takes the skier comfortably.
Over 17: Some useful blows from Sami there. 12 runs off Ashwin. 83/8
Over 16: 1 run and the big wicket of Sarfraz Ahmed by Jadeja. 71/8
15.1 Ravindra Jadeja to Sarfraz Ahmed
OUT! BOWLED ‘EM! Darts it in around off, comes with the angle as Sarfraz is beaten by the pace on the back foot. He wanted to drive but the ball wasn’t there for the stroke as it sneaks through to crash into the sticks. Whatever little hope Pakistan had, has gone with Sarfraz.
Over 15: 7 runs from Ashwin’s second over. 70/7
Over 14: 5 runs off Jadeja. 63/7
Over 13: 2 runs off Ashwin. 58/7
Over 12: 5 runs and Riaz’s wicket from that Jadeja over. 56/7
11.4 Ravindra Jadeja to Wahab Riaz
OUT! JADEJA STRIKES! Darts it in on middle and off, Wahab goes for the sweep across the line but misses it as the ball crashes into the pads. That was very plumb as the procession continues for Pakistan. Jadeja set it up well with some flighted deliveries before serving the slider.
Over 11: 4 runs off Pandya. 51/6
Over 10: 4 runs conceded by Yuvraj. 47/6
Over 9: Just one run off Pandya. 43/6
Over 8: The wickets of Afridi and Akmal and 7 runs off Yuvraj’s first over. 42/6
7.6 Yuvraj Singh to Shahid Afridi
OUT! GONE! PAKISTAN ARE IMPLODING HERE! Flatter on middle and leg, Afridi gets back and whips it away to deep square leg for a single. They decide to go back for the second run but forget that it is Jadeja in the outfield. The fiery throw is right up into Dhoni who whips it off in a flash. Afridi was well short. It gets for bad to worse for Pakistan.
7.1 Yuvraj Singh to Umran Akmal
OUT! YUVRAJ STRIKES FIRST BALL! Fires it in on off, slides off the deck as Akmal pushes at it as the ball crashes into the pads. Big lbw appeal and is given straightaway. That looked dead plumb and Pakistan sink further.
Over 7: 3 runs and the wicket of Shoaib Malik off Pandya’s first over. 35/4
6.6 Pandya to Shoaib Malik, OUT
Pakistan are crumbling here! Pandya leaps in the air and clicks his heels together like Brett Lee used to do!
Over 6: 4 runs and the wicket of Khurram Manzoor off Bumrah. 32/3
5.5 Bumrah to Shoaib Malik, OUT
Kohli’s run out Manzoor with a direct hit, his painful stay is over!
Over 5: 2 runs off Nehra. 28/2
Over 4: 8 runs off Bumrah and Sharjeel’s wicket. 26/2
3.3 Jasprit Bumrah to Sharjeel Khan
OUT! BUMRAH HAS HIS REVENGE! Slower ball outside off, Sharjeel is deceived by the lack of pace as he is early into the back foot slash. Extra bounce too on offer as the slice flies to Rahane who was placed wide as the lone slip fielder and he pouches it with ease. Pakistan jolted early with these strikes.
Over 3: 13 runs off Nehra. 18/1
Over 2: Bumrah’s first over is a maiden. 5/1
Over 1: Five runs and the wicket of Hafeez off Nehra’s first over. Pakistan 5/1
0.4 Ashish Nehra to Mohammad Hafeez
OUT! NEHRA STRIKES EARLY! Good length angled away outside off, some extra bounce there as Hafeez looks to cut. The bounce goes big on him as he gets a feather through to Dhoni who collects it with ease. Once again, Nehra gives India the early breakthrough. The veteran continues his good form with the new ball since comeback.
Indian T20 captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl first in his side’s second match of the Asia Cup T20 against Pakistan in Dhaka on Saturday.
Dhoni explained his decision to bowl, saying the pitch was harder and had more grass than the one in India’s first match against hosts Bangladesh. With less dew on the surface initially, he said he would prefer to bowl first.
Asked about his fitness following a back spasm he suffered two days before the tournament began, Dhoni said, “Well, I’m surviving.”
Dhoni’s Pakistan counterpart Shahid Afridi said he would have liked to have batted first anyway.
