It’s been a pretty busy two days for me and the team. We finished our last game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Port Elizabeth and it was time again to get to the next venue, Johannesburg.
There was something more than just the game for us to look forward to. Some of our families were joining us at Jo'burg.
My wife and my baby boy are now with me and will be with me for the rest of the trip. It is essential for an international cricketer to be able to spend as much time as possible with his family.
You know, at times it is incredibly difficult to stay away from your family when on long tours. I know of most international cricketers nowadays looking at incorporating their families with them while on tours.
Just like me Viru (Sehwag) and Dilshan (Tillekaratne) also have young families. Their families have been on tour so far and it’s been nice to see them together. And as we go along, I hope all us fathers can exchange notes. It would be nice way of catching up.
The fact that the families have joined in, has given a nice feel to the whole group. It also helps that you have a guy like Viru as captain because he can say something, which lightens the mood. He is that kind of character.
While I have been busy with my family, the other guys had a day off. So they all took it easy and relaxed around the hotel. Some went out looking at some of the places here.
It’s been pretty quiet time for us in that sense. Yeah, AB (de Villiers) continues to be our port of call in any city we visit here. And as usual he has only been too happy to oblige.
Me and my family haven't planned any trips around as yet, because we have a child and cannot really go around visiting too many places. This is the best time for me to have a look at my kid and spend some time together.
Hopefully we get to soak in the scenery and the atmosphere around the country.
