The DDCA wants to turn the Ferozeshah Kotla into the best stadium in the country, and it wants to start as soon as possible. The first steps towards that end were completed on Friday evening, when two of the four floodlights were switched on.
It was a wonderful sight — the lush green outfield glistening under the lights, heightening the sense of anticipation for the IPL.
On a chilly evening, enjoying this sight with his evening tea was DDCA president Arun Jaitley who elaborated on the Association's plans.
"These are the most powerful lights in the country," Jaitley said. “We have both the area and the resources to turn watching cricket at the Kotla into an unforgettable experience, and we will do just that," Jaitley added. With floodlights already being installed in the main ground, the DDCA has started work on floodlighting the practice area. "We will also construct an indoor practice facility," Jaitley said.
"The media box and the old dressing room area are already being centrally air-conditioned, we have also done away with the Card Room and will be converting it into a VIP enclosure," he added. "No other ground has so many hospitality boxes as the Kotla, and we want to use this to our advantage," Jaitley said.
The future for the Kotla, quite like its lights, seems very bright.
